Nematodes are soil inhabitants and are serious constraints to the productivity of
crops. Hence, management of these microscopic organisms is one on the important
components of plant protection.
Neem Cake has a substainial role in Nematode
Control.
Soil drenching with extracts of neem
products has been reported to be useful
in perennial crops. This soil drenching
may be more practical with the drip
irrigation. Neem products as soil
amendments bring changes in the soil
in various ways- being organic they
decompose and mix with the soil to
change its physical and chemical
properties like structure, texture, arability,
water holding capacity and pH value as
well as soil biota which may indirectly
influence the nematode populations.
Also, soil fertility may be more with
nitrogen availability and the plant vigor
may reduce the damage caused by the
nematodes  by increasing the tolerance
level. The use of
urea coated with neem
formulation, which are ment for slow
release of nitrogen, also reduced root
knot and reniform
nematodes
populations and increased yield of okra
and tomato. But there is need for
experimentation to standardize all
aspects of these methods before
recommending to the farmers.
Pesticidal potential of neem has been proved beyond doubt and its role in integrated
Pest Management (IPM)
is becoming increasingly relevant in efforts to reduce
dependence on hazardous chemical pesticides.
